Sandwiched between the towering peaks of the great western Himalayas and Tibetan plateau, Ladakh is the highest, least populated and presumably the most inaccessible region in India. The name derives from Ladags meaning 'high passes' and its rugged and arid, corrugated landscape of ridges, twisted and exposed vast geological strata,huge snow-capped peaks, dark gorges and wide valleys offer one of the most spectacular views in the whole country.
