Rajasthan is the treasure trove of many popular Jain temples. The historic city of Bikaner is home to two such temples called Bhandeshwar Temple and Sandeshwar Temple. Constructed by two rich merchant brothers, after whom the temples have been named, these temples boast of beautiful designs and embellishments.

Bhandeshwar Temple is dedicated to Parashvanath, a Jain Saint, and is admirable for wooden columns exhibiting wonderful carvings. Motifs, dancing figures and many other elements add worth to the temple design. Sandeshwar Temple dedicated to Jain Tirthankara Neminath is another stupendous structure with ornamental designs and frescos adorned with enamel and gold-leaf work. Another highlight of the temple is the row of marble statues of various eminent Jain saints.

When in Bikaner, you shouldn’t miss the chance to explore lavish mansions (havelis) that are located close to the temples.
