Known for its resemblance with Agra’s Taj Mahal, Bibi ka Maqbara is a beautiful mausoleum and a popular tourist spot in Maharashtra. Interestingly, Taj Mahal was commissioned by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal and Bibi ka Maqbara was commissioned by his grandson Azam Shah for his mother Dilras Banu Begum. Another interesting aspect is that this monument was designed by Ata-Ullah, whose father Ustad Ahmad Lahauri was the chief designer of Taj Mahal.

Though not as splendid as Taj Mahal, this mausoleum is admirable for its architectural elements like impressive foliage designs, carved motifs, intricate details, marble dome and woodwork. Other highlights of the monument include lush green lawns, rows of beautiful trees, pools and fountains, a mosque and a serene environment. Popularly, it is known as Dakhani Taj or Taj of the Deccan.
