Dedicated to the most iconic Indian of the 20th century, the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, it is a popular memorial cum museum in the city of Bhavnagar. Inaugurated in the year 1955, Gandhi Smriti honours and commemorates the lifelong services of Gandhi while leading the India’ struggle for freedom. Visitors can find large collections of books and photographs and other items of memorabilia associated with him.
 
The venue is also home to Barton Museum which houses the archaeological items collected from various excavation sites in the region of Saurashtra. Betel cutters, religious carvings and many other artefacts displayed at the museum add to the wonderful experience of being there.
 
Gandhi Smriti also accommodates a Khadi Gramodhyog Bhandar from where one can explore and purchase attractive traditional handmade items and embroidered garments. Another attraction of the place is its well-organized library boasting of some remarkable collections.

Connectivites

Road: Located close to the iconic Clock Tower in the Crescent Circle, the memorial occupies a central location in Bhavnagar. The best local transport mode is auto-rickshaw, though taxis and cycle-rickshaws as well as local buses are also available.

Railway: Bhavnagar Terminus Railway Station is less than 4 km. from this memorial. From here, you can best access Gandhi Smriti in an auto-rickshaw or a cycle-rickshaw.

Airway: Connected to Mumbai via daily flights, Bhavnagar’s domestic airport is only about 4 km. from the museum. Take a taxi or hire an auto-rickshaw for convenient transit.
