Gurudongmar Lake is situated at a height of 17000 ft., which makes it the 15th highest lake in the world. It is considered to be a sacred lake by both Hindus and Buddhists and is believed to have miraculous properties. The spectacular milky color of this lake is absolutely beautiful. This lake lies in the North of the Khangchengyao Range and therefore is surrounded by snow clad mountains.


Due to high altitude, tourists may experience breathing problems and thus it is advisable to come down to the valley soon. Despite the hardships of reaching this place, it is must visit place for all as the view is mesmerizing and the environment is calm and serene.
Connectivites

Road: Gurudongmar Lake can be reached very conveniently by road. There are various car services provided by many tour operators and one can start their journey from Gangtok (about 164 km.); from Lachen (about 59 km.) or from Thangu Valley (about 32 km.). Individuals cannot go their directly therefore visit this place through tour operators only.

Railway: New Jalpaguri Railway Station in Siliguri, West Bengal is the nearest rail head and is at the distance of about 120 km. from Gangtok. Through travel operators one can book cars to travel further to the Gurudongmar Lake.

Airway: The nearest airport to reach Gangtok is Bagdogra Airport, Darjeeling, West Bengal (about 125 km.). Regular buses and private cabs can be hired from this airport to reach Gangtok and from there through private tour operators one can book a tour visit to Gurudongmar Lake.
