Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur, with a deep intention to pay reverence to his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, built the memorial called Jaswant Thada in 1899. Standing close to a beautiful pond, the structure epitomizes architectural brilliance and pure royal majesty with its construction from thin marble sheets. On top of that, the structure is polished magnificently to glow under shinning sun and instantly grab the attention from a distance.
The place has served as the royal cremation ground and boasts of numerous gazebos and royal cenotaphs with splendour beyond any description. Sculptures, pillars, domes, lattice screens and frescos of the main structure can leave you mesmerized with their precise designs and details. To enhance the overall impact of the structure, a multi-tiered garden was built. You can have some splendid views of Mehrangarh Fort from this spot. A memorial built for a peacock which accidentally flew into a burning pyre is also worth a watch.

The monument-cum-memorial is located close to the Mehrangarh Fort and can be accessed on foot from the fort. From other parts of the city, you can hire taxis and auto-rickshaws to locate the place.

The railway station of Jodhpur is an important junction connecting the city with many cities and regions. The station is about 6 km. from the monument and can be accessed in a taxi or auto-rickshaw.
