Counted among the holiest Jain pilgrimage destinations, Palitana Temples sit atop the twin summits of Shatrunjaya Hills. More than 860 temples divided into 9 tunks (clusters) are not only drenched in intense mysticism, but also flaunt superlative architecture in marble. Ornate motifs, intricate carvings, enticing geometrical designs and grand architectural elements leave the visitors spellbound.

Marking the visit of Jain Tirthankaras, the avid followers of the religion built these temples over the course of many years. Adinath Temple is the main shrine, while other popular ones include Sahasrakuta, Kumarpal, Ashtapada and Chaumukh. The temples can be accessed by climbing more than 3,700 stone steps which account for about 3.5 km. One can have breathtaking views of the Gulf of Cambay and other topographic features from the top.

The temples witness huge numbers of pilgrims and visitors during Chha Gau Teerth Yatra, usually organized in October. It is worth mentioning that nobody, including the priests, is allowed to stay at the temples after evening.
