The multi-faceted Puri Beach is a hotspot for the nature lovers, family holidaymakers as well as the honeymoon couples. However, the most significant aspect of the beach is that it is considered holy for being close to the world-famous Jagannath Temple. The beach overlooking the roaring Bay of Bengal is also the celebrated host of the annual Puri Beach Festival, attracting thousands from all over the world.
Spectacular views of sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed at the beach which is also famous for swimming and sunbathing. Devotees also consider it auspicious to take a holy dip in its water. Apart from relaxing on the dazzling white sand, one can take part in a variety of water sports. There are food stall selling delicious cuisines of the region and shops selling seashells, lamp shades, wall hangings, jute items and other interesting stuff. Visitors can also collect the seashells at the shore and watch the local fisherman engaged in their activities.
It is advised to avoid visiting the beach during high tides. The Beach Festival in November is an outstanding opportunity to explore the magnificent sand art by the world renowned artists.
Connectivites
Road:
Puri being one of the holiest Hindu towns has good road connections in all directions. NH 5 and 203 offer an easy access to the town and the beach by buses, private cars and taxis. The beach can also be accessed on foot from any corner of Puri.
Railway:
About 3 km. from the beach is the Puri Railway Station. From here, you can hire an auto-rickshaw or a cycle-rickshaw or prefer to walk to the beach.
Airway:
Bhubaneswar Airport is only about 60 km. from the beach. There is excellent road connectivity between the airport and the beach, taxis being the best modes of transport.
