Hailakandi is a town located in the Indian state of Assam (North-East India). It is claimed that almost 50% of Hailakandi is under forest cover, of which majority of the part is yet to be explored. Bengali (Bangla) is the official language of the town. The city is popular as a hill station blessed with serene environment. The town is best known for trekking. It is believed that Kuki tribe was the first to dwell in this town and the word ‘Hailakandi’ is derived from Kuki words – ‘Halam’ means small state and Kundia means small settlement meant for impermanent ploughing. The region receives a tropical monsoon climate.

Eating out is a popular activity in Hailakandi, with a number of popular restaurants like Sri Durga Hotel, Loknath Restaurant, Mahamaya Hotel and Riya Hotel serving the best authentic cuisines of Assam.   • Kolasib (about 106 km.) – The place is popular for boating and fishing among tourists and locals. River Tiwang and Tam Lake are the two most important streams where you can try these activities.
  • Kailashahar (about 153 km.) – Popular as an important pilgrim spot. Unakoti is an important place popular for its huge rock cut idols of Lord Shiva.
