Ambaji Temple

One among the 51 Shakti Peethas (worship places of Goddess Shakti); Ambaji Temple is of great religious significance for the Hindus. According to the Hindu mythology, the heart of Goddess Sati fell here when her body was dismantled by Lord Vishnu. A white marble wonder with gold-plated cones and intricate carvings, the temple is located in Arasur Hills and is well-known for its peaceful environment. A rare exception in Hinduism, the temple lacks idols. Viso Yantra, a form of sacred geometry with Vedic inscriptions, attached to a holy gokh is worshipped here. It is believed that the yantra can neither be viewed with naked eye nor be photographed. The temple is accessible by climbing 999 steps, which is indeed a wonderful experience. The area near to the temple complex has a local market where visitors can shop variety of items. Visiting Ambaji Temple during occasions like Bhadarvi Poornima, Navratri, Diwali, Poshsud Punam and other festivals is another outstanding experience. One can also visit the nearby attractions like Gabbar Hill (accessible by ropeway), Kailash Hill Sunset Point, Kamakshi Temple, Koteshwar Mahadev Temple and Mansarovar. Warning: Cameras and mobile phones are forbidden. Non-Hindu visitors need to follow the customs. Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are strictly prohibited.
