Melghat Tiger Reserve

Known as India’s most important tiger breeding habitats, Melghat Tiger Reserve houses more than 35 tigers at one place. Unfolded in about 1676 sq.km. it is one of the first nine tiger reserves under the Project Tiger mission. Stationed near Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border, Melghat Tiger Reserve houses two interesting attractions - the Melghat Sanctuary and the Gugarnal National Park. Other than tigers, Melghat Tiger Reserve is also popular as a fantastic birdwatching spot. It has about 250 bird species and 16 snake species. Renowned as the region of cliffs and mountains, tourists may have to wait for a long time to spot tigers as they are not easily seen. Visitors can spot raptors and eagles in large number here. Leopards, wolves, foxes, jackals, hyenas and Dholes are some of the other animal species tourists can find here.
