Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary

The thick jungles of Chhattisgarh in the Central India are home to many wildlife reserves, Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary being one of them. Established in the year 1974, the sanctuary covers an area of about 556 sq. km. and is dominated by hilly train with altitudes measuring up to 736 m. River Sitanadi originating in the region lends its name to the sanctuary. Sitanadi forests have sal, bamboo and teak as their main flora, with a variety of other vegetations that endow the entire area with lush green foliage. The sanctuary is home to a significant population of tigers, while its other popular species include leopard, jungle cat, sloth bear, wild dog, flying squirrel, chinkara, four-horned antelope, barking deer, sambar, nilgai and wild boar among others. A wide variety of birds finding home at Sitanadi includes herons, egrets, parrots, drongos, pheasants, barbets and many more.
