Facilitating India’s 3rd largest hydroelectric project, Srisailam Dam is located at the border of the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and is an engineering marvel built on River Krishna. Occupying a deep gorge in the Nallamala Hills, the dam boasts of flawless natural beauty all around. At the height of about 300 m., the dam is about 512 m. high and has 12 crest gates. It is a mesmerizing sight when the gates open and loads of water fall from the height. Another highlight of the place is the amazing view of River Krishna, one of the sacred rivers of South India. The reservoir of about 800 sq. km. supports boating. You can spend hours relishing the beauty of the place and explore the nearby attractions like Hindu Temple, cave temples, rock shelters and ancient ruins. It is worth mentioning that the roads to the dam are closed for traffic from 09:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m.
