Chowpatty Beach

No trip to Mumbai is complete without visiting the lively and entertaining Chowpatty Beach. Also called Girgaum Chowpatty or Chaupati Beach, it remains occupied with flocks of local residents and tourists. The most striking aspect of the beach is the huge arrays of stalls selling mouth-watering snacks and street food including pav bhaji, panipuri, bhelpuri, vada pav and ragda patties and the local kulfi (ice-cream). Camel and horse riding escalate the fun one can enjoy at this beach. There are fun-filled rides, like merry-go-round and ferry wheels, that attract children and adults alike. Every corner of the beach boasts of balloon-sellers, fortune-tellers, snake charmers and street performers. Enjoy a monkey dance show or a magic show, common forms of entertainment at Chowpatty. The sandy beach is also popular for the end-day celebrations of Ganesha Chaturthi when idols of Lord Ganesha in all sizes are immersed in the sea water.
