One of the cleanest and pollution-free beaches in the whole of India, Alibaug Beach is well-known for its sand which is one shade black as compared to that found on other beaches in the region. Unlike other beaches of India’s western coast, it remains free from tourist crowds and offers excellent tranquillity. Views of Kolaba Fort that is located few metres away from the shore add to the delight of being here. Apart from taking leisurely walk along the sea, one can enjoy rides on tongas (horse carts). Filled with fresh and unpolluted air, the beach is dotted with coconut trees and is ideal for everyone, from playful kids to romantic couples and family tourists. There are street food vendors offering tangy snacks like vada-paav and bhelpuri and refreshing coconut water. Bathing and swimming are the fun-filled activities here. Volleyball and cricket can also be enjoyed at the beach. Warnings: Tides are strong and rough during monsoons and it is advised not to go deep into the water.
