Gurudwara Charan Kanwal

Dedicated to a memorable visit by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, Gurudwara Charan Kanwal is located in the Machhiwara Town near the city of Ludhiana. According to the popular legend, the Guru, after escaping from the clutches of Mughal forces, quenched his thirst by drinking water from a well at this place and spent a full night sleeping under a jand tree. The tree is still present near the Sikh temple and the divine well is used to supply water to the gurudwara. A beautiful white structure surrounded by immense calmness, the gurudwara is visited by devotees from all religions. It is also believed that the Guru sang his popular hymn ‘Mitar Pyare Nu’ at the same place. Also, three of his popular five devotees (known as Panj Pyare) met him here. Every year, a huge fair is held at the holy place on the occasion of Baisakhi in the month of April.
