Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary

The area between the districts of Bhandara and Gondia is home to the Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary. Known for its mesmerizing natural beauty, lush green landscapes and significant population of tigers and other wild animals, the sanctuary was recently made a part of the prestigious Project Tiger. Jungle safari trips to the sanctuary are conducted in jeeps and on elephants. Apart from tigers, one may come across the species like panther, bison, sloth bear, nilgai, chital, wild boar, wild dog, jackal, palm civet, giant flying squirrel and many more. The sanctuary is also famous for its birds, reptiles, fishes and insects as well as the fabulous geological features like picturesque lakes and rock formations (of slates, chlorites and other stones). Mixed forests and huge expanses of teaks, bamboos and meadows add to the sanctuary’s inimitable grandeur. The park closes from mid-June to September. Visitors need to shell out extra fees for guides.
