Unfolded in over 78 km. Mukurthi National Park in the Nilgiris District is home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr. The park is home to a number of endangered species like Asian Elephant and Royal Bengal Tiger. Previously renowned as Nilgiri Tahr National Park, Mukurthi National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 1, 2012. Habitat to several endangered flora and fauna, Mukurthi National Park gives you an opportunity to capture Sambhar, Barking Deer, Jackals and Nilgiri Marten in your camera. Other than animals, this national park also has colourful and lovely birds like woodcock, wild pigeon, black eagle and laughing and whistling thrushes. If exploring various species of butterflies entices you, a visit to this park will certainly be a grand treat. Visitors can explore a large variety of butterflies like Indian Fritillary, Blue Admiral, Rainbow Trouts and Indian Red Admiral etc.
