Triveni Ghat, Somnath

Triveni Ghat- as the Sanskrit name suggests is the natural confluence of three sacred rivers of India- namely Saraswati, Kapil and Hiran. Triveni Ghat is also a primary Hindu pilgrim ground and one of the most popular spiritual spots in the bustling township Somnath in Gujarat. As per the mythological Hindu tales of yore, this Ghat has been witness to the fatal accident of Lord Krishna when He was shot by an arrow. Historical references suggest that the much loved God Krishna was finally cremated in the precincts of Triveni Ghat. The rivers of Kapil, Saraswati and Hiran are supposed to join the mighty Arabian Sea. According to spiritual pundits; these rivers symbolise man’s eternal journey through birth, life and finally death. Triveni Ghat is also known to cure diseases and evil curses for those pilgrims who take a dip with devotional faith and fervour. Tourists throng the place to visit the temples known as ‘Lakshminarayan’ and ‘Gita Mandir’ that are situated on its banks. The Ghat is also referred as Triveni Sangam by local Indians. The epic tales of Ramayana and Mahabharata are said to mention this special Ghat in their religious narrative writings.
