Jaisamand Lake

Asia’s largest artificial lake at the time of its construction in the 17th century, Jaisamand Lake near Udaipur now ranks at second position. Also called Bhebar Lake, it resulted from the construction of a dam over River Gomati by Maharana Jai Singh. Enclosed within rugged hills, the lake spread over 36 sq. km. of area and houses numerous islands. Apart from its unbeatable beauty and serene atmosphere, the lake is popular for outstanding royal structures built along its periphery. A summer palace constructed for Udaipur Queens and a pavilion supported by 12 beautifully carved pillars are among the noteworthy attractions.
