Bhalka Tirth

The place from where Lord Krishna began his final journey to the netherworld, Bhalka Tirth is a popular Hindu Pilgrimage site in Gujarat. According to the popular legend, Krishna’s foot was pierced by an arrow shot by a hunter named Jara who mistakenly considered it as the foot of a deer. Today, a temple at the place where Lord Krishna was meditating under a peepal tree at the time of the incident is visited by huge numbers of pilgrims. The temple houses a marble idol of Lord Krishna and has a holy Tulsi tree erected in his honour. The pilgrimage site is located close to the holy confluence of three rivers, including River Hiran from where the wounded Krishna began his final journey. Located close to Bhalka Tirth is the Jyotirlinga Temple of Somnath, a world-famous site dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other attractions in the close proximity include Gir National Park and Chorwad Beach.
