About

With the magnificent backdrop of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and surrounded by alpine meadows and oak and deodar forests, Bhimakali Temple is no less than a glittering gem for the visitors. Known for its beautiful architecture, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali (a form of Goddess Durga) and is one of the 51 Shakti-Peethas. It is believed that Goddess Bhimakali appeared here to help the region get rid of nasty demons. Another legend states that it became a shakti peeth after Devi Sati’s ear fell here. The temple represents imposing Tibetan architecture and is an outstanding wooden structure with spellbinding carvings. A 200-year old idol of Devi Parvati (Sati) is placed on level one of the temple and is worshipped on special occasions. Close to River Sutlej and surrounded by apple orchards, the temple complex also houses temples dedicated to Lord Raghunath, Lord Narsingh, Shri Lankravir and Lord Hanuman. Festivals like Navratri and Dussehra are celebrated with great enthusiasm at the temple.
