About 13 km. from Palampur city centre is Dhauladhar National Park, also known as Gopalpur Zoo. An exciting venue for the wildlife enthusiasts, the park is home to many wild species like Asiatic lions, leopards, Himalayan black bear, red fox, wild pig and a variety of deer. Angora rabbit is another popular highlight of the zoo. Visitors can also explore birds like peacock, eagle, vulture, monal, koklass, kaleej and others in the park. A watch tower near the dwelling place of Asiatic lions offers wonderful opportunity to view the royal beast. In addition, one can relish some stunning views of snow-topped Dhauladhar Range from the tower and from many other parts of the park. Some exotic species of Himalayan wet temperate fauna are also put on display inside the park.

By air: Gaggal Airport at Kangra is the nearest air access point. About 27 km. from the national park. It is better to hire a taxi to enjoy convenient access to this wildlife destination.
By rail: Maranda Railway Station on narrow gauge line is about 18 km. from the park. The closest broad gauge railway station is at Pathankot which is about 103 km. away. Taxis are the preferred options to travel from these stations to the park.
By road: The national park is located on Palampur-Dharamsala road which promises enthralling views of mountains, valleys, tea gardens and meadows. The road is in very good condition for two-wheelers and four-wheelers
