About

Renowned for its beautiful flora and fauna worldwide, Eravikulam National Park is domicile to a rare species of the wild goats - Nilgiri Tahr. The park houses about 120 bird species like Nilgiri pipit, black and orange flycatcher etc. Sprawled over 97 sq.km. the national park is famous for the flawless beauty of its roving grasslands and sholas. The presence of Atlas Moth, the largest of its kind in the world, make the park unique. Home to around 100 odd butterflies, the park has several temperate species, medicinal plants and rare orchids. Wildlife enthusiasts can get a glimpse of rare species of fauna like the lion-tailed macaque, leopards, tigers and Nilgiri Langur. The Eravikulam National Park is under consideration for selection as a World Heritage Site. The park remains closed during the calving season from February 1st for 45-60 days. Visitors can enjoy trekking in the Rajamalai Hills. Also, tourists can explore some of the best nearby attractions viz. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and Marayoor.

How to Reach

By air: Cochin International Airport (about 118 km.) is the nearest airport to reach the Eravikulam National Park. Taxi service is available from outside the airport to reach the park.

By rail: Aluva Railway Station (about 119 km.) is the nearest railhead to reach the national park. You can take taxi from the station to reach your destination.

By road: The national park is well-connected with other cities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu by state transport buses. You can drive from Munnar to the national park, which takes not more than 20 minutes.
