Lalbagh Botanical Gardens

Lalbagh Botanical garden houses the largest collection of tropical plants in the country. It is well known for the annual flower show conducted in its glass house, which is modeled on London's Crystal Palace. Originally commissioned by the Mysore ruler, Hyder Ali, Lalbagh is one of the must see attractions in the city. It has over 1000 different types of plants including a rare collection of plants that were sourced from various countries including Persia, France and Afghanistan. Lal Bagh is set in 240 acres around one of the towers built by Kempa Gowda, the founder of the city. The beautifully landscaped garden with various features like lawns, lotus pools and fountains also has one of the oldest rock formations that are 3000 million years old. The design of Lalbagh was drawn from the famous Mughal gardens that once stood at Sira at Tumkur District in Karnataka. The garden is not just a favourite spot for morning joggers and health freaks but also among families that throng the garden on weekends and holidays.
