Dharbaneeswarar Temple (or Dharbaranyeswarar Temple), also known as Saniswaram Temple is located in the town of Thirunallar and is of great reverence among the followers of Lord Shiva and Lord Sani (Saturn). There are shrines of Lord Shiva (worshipped as Dharbaranyeswarar), Goddess Boghamaarthapoonmulaiyaal and Lord Sani within the temple complex. Saturday being the day of worshipping Sani attracts huge flocks of devotees to the temple. It is believed that the temple gets its name from the forest of Dharba (a type of grass) surrounding it. According to the popular mythological legend, King Nala got relieved from the influence of Sani by taking a bath at the holy tank at this place. Visitors to the temple take an oil bath at the tank and then pray to seek the blessings of Lord Sani. Prefer to visit on a Saturday if you are visiting the temple as a pilgrim. The temple stays open from 06:00 a.m.-08:00 p.m. on this day.
Often regarded as the icon of the city of Pondicherry, Promenade Beach (or simply The Promenade) is a beautiful stretch of about 1.5 km. in length. In addition, there are many popular statues like those of Joan or Arc, Mahatma Gandhi and Dupleix. The Old Light House is an added attraction to the beach. Prefer to visit the beach during sunrise for some breathtaking views of the whole area. To enjoy walking along the avenue, prefer to visit in the evening when the traffic is restricted. The beach is not apt for swimming, but offers one to spend some great moments.

Set up by Sri Aurobindo way back in 1926, the ashram was looked after by Madam Mirra Alfassa, fondly called The Mother or Maa by the followers. Passes are required to stay, to dine and to participate in different activities. Visitors can also visit the cenotaphs (Samadhis) of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Guided tours, which begin at 08:15 am, can be joined to explore the ashram in the company of a guide. Additional Information: It is advisable to wear traditional or decent Indian clothes. Children below 3 are not permitted. Sexual activities, alcohol and smoking items are prohibited. Advance reservation is required at ashram-run guesthouses. At the ashram, passes are required by guests for various activities.
