Tour Overview

The British, with the assistance of the local Maharajas, set up Mahabaleshwar as a health and wellness resort in the 1820s, but soon they realized its worth as a summer retreat. Our Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar tour package takes inspiration from the hill station’s historic relationship with Mumbai, as it served as the summer capital of Bombay Province. Soon, the British administrators made a beeline to the pretty place and discovered some amazing vantage points, christening them after their own names. Following that, the farms and gardens of strawberries, mulberries, raspberries, carrots and red potatoes mushroomed up in the whole region. The relaxing cool climate, spectacular vistas and construction of English bungalows added to the place’s growing reputation. Today, it is Maharashtra’s largest hill station, with a wealth of evergreen forests, rich fauna and avifauna and some wondrous spiritual and historical attractions. No wonder Mahabaleshwar honeymoon package from Mumbai attracts newlywed couples in huge numbers.

Travel Tips For Mumbai To Mahabaleshwar Tour Package

Travel Tips:

How to Reach from Mumbai:

By Car: If you choose to drive or hire a cab for Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar holiday package, there are two routes you can choose from. For the first one, take Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Pune and then follow the route via Wai to Mahabaleshwar. It is a two-lane clean road and longer between the two. However, the time taken on this route is shorter. The second route, on Mumbai-Goa Highway and via Pen and Mahad, is shorter in length but is challenging and hence takes more time. However, the scenic beauty of the Ghats can be best enjoyed on the second route.

By Bus, you can choose among daily service in an ordinary AC, Volvo or express bus.

By Train: Board a train from Mumbai to Satara which is about 56 km. from Mahabaleshwar. The rail connectivity is excellent. From Satara, you can easily hire a cab.

Weather and Best Time:

Due to height and closeness to the Arabian Sea, Mahableshwar experiences moderate climate which makes it a popular destination during winters (October-February) as well as in summers (March-June). Though it is blessed with unmatched greenery and natural beauty during monsoons (July-September), heavy rainfall may make sightseeing difficult and trekking risky.

Shopping at Mahabaleshwar:

The popular Town Bazaar has shops that sell items like farm fresh strawberries, raspberries, carrots, radish and other items. You may also buy fruit products like jellies, squashes, syrups, jams, fruit crushes, marmalades and juice concentrate at the bazaar or at the Mapro Garden on the way to Panchgani. Handmade pappads and pickles, as well as pure honey and turmeric powder and roots, are among other popular items. The locally crafted cane baskets and wood carvings and Kolhapuri leather chappals too would attract your attention. Imperial Store is popular for wines.

Eating at Mahabaleshwar:

Corn patties, strawberry cream, strawberry shakes and ice-creams are something you can enjoy at every footstep here. The Grapevine Restaurant is famous for serving delicious India, Thai and Continental cuisines. Don’t miss the scrumptious pizzas and ice-creams at Mapro Garden Restaurant. Other popular venues include Rajmahal Restaurant, Hotel Panorama, The Olive Garden and Saayali Restaurant.

Top Festivals and Events

  • Paragliding can be best enjoyed at Panchgani during November-February. Adventurers can choose between tandem and solo jumps.
  • Strawberry Festival (March-April) is an exciting time to take Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar tour package. Apart from free strawberries and strawberry picking trips, celebrations include folk dances and performances.

Useful Tips and Information:

  • You would need to trek to reach the spots like Arthur’s Seat. Prefer to wear good trekking shoes and be careful while traversing the narrow and slippery trails.
  • Monkeys can be a mess at major tourist attractions. Beware of them.
  • If you are a single tourist, you would be able to avail taxis only after providing details at the police station. Taxi owners don’t entertain single tourists out of the fear of the latter committing suicide.
  • Waterfalls like Chinaman and Dhobi are alive during monsoon and post-monsoon months (July-November).  Beware of leeches during the rainy season.
  • Traffic congestions are a bitter reality at Mahableshwar. Always leave the hotel early in the morning to avoid crowds. The number of places you are able to visit depends on traffic conditions.
  • Pack cotton clothes as well as light to moderate woollens. Umbrellas and raincoats may prove useful.
  • Chances of mountain sickness are rare but don’t mind carrying the right medicines.
  • Try not to be out alone and after it gets dark. The hilly areas tend to get deserted towards late evening hours.
  • Always indulge in bargaining. Sellers usually quote high costs at the start but may reduce a huge fraction of it later.
