Itanagar Joins the Vast Indian Railways Network

Indian railways need no introduction for being a major means of transport for the domestic travellers as well as the foreign tourists. The latest destination to join the network extended in all directions is Itanagar, the state capital of Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast India. After Guwahati, Itanagar becomes the second capital of the region to enjoy rail connectivity. Naharlagun-Dekargaon Passenger (Train number 55613) is the first train to run from Dekargaon in Assam to Naharlagun Railway Station, some 15 km. from Itanagar. The total distance of about 181 km. consists of several minor and major bridges promises a scenic journey through the hill region.

The historic development helps the passengers to travel by paying fare significantly lower than what they had been paying for the modes like buses and tempos. Apart from the local residents, the tourists visiting the region in huge number would also benefit from this addition to the Indian railway map. It is worth mentioning that Meghalaya, another north-eastern state, was also recently brought on the railway map.

Plans are in the pipeline to connect Arunachal Pradesh further with the national capital Delhi. There are many significant projects, many of which have already started. One can expect the landlocked region to enjoy better bonding with the rest of India in the near future.
