Shegaon Gajanan Maharaj: what you need in 2026

Temple and pilgrimageLast checked 14 September 2026
The short answer for Shegaon Gajanan Maharaj

Shegaon, in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, is the home of Shri Gajanan Maharaj, a much-loved saint, and the Sansthan here is famous across India for its clean, orderly, honest running.

Your darshan is free. The Sansthan runs a large pilgrim stay, the Bhakta Niwas, and a big garden park, the Anand Sagar. Many websites claim to book Shegaon rooms, and most are not the Sansthan, so take great care and never pay a stranger.

WayToIndia guides you to the official site, and can arrange it for you where a registered channel is needed. We never charge you for a free government permit.
01

Free darshan

  • Your darshan of Shri Gajanan Maharaj is free and open to all.
  • On Gurupratipada, the saint's Prakat Din, on Rushi Panchami, and on festival days the crowds are enormous, so reach early.
  • The Sansthan is known for its discipline and its free and low-cost service to pilgrims, so follow the volunteers and the queue.

Because the darshan is free, do not pay anyone online for a Shegaon "darshan pass." The darshan itself costs nothing.

02

Anand Sagar, in plain words

The Sansthan built the Anand Sagar, a large landscaped park on the edge of Shegaon, with gardens, a lake, a meditation centre and rides, spread over hundreds of acres. Families make a day of it after the temple. Give yourself a half day for the Anand Sagar if you travel with children, and check its own timings and any entry on the spot, because it keeps set hours.

03

Where you stay, in plain words

The Sansthan runs the Bhakta Niwas, a large, cheap, well-kept pilgrim stay, and this is where the fake websites do their damage. Book your room in person at the Sansthan's own booking office, or through the Sansthan's own verified phone contact, and never send money to a website you cannot confirm. If a site asks you to pay in advance for a Shegaon room and you cannot confirm it is the Sansthan, walk away. The Sansthan's stay is famously cheap, so a site charging a big fee is a warning sign.

04

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Your biggest mistake would be paying a fake room-booking website, because Shegaon has many, and we could not confirm an official one. Book only in person or through the Sansthan's own verified contact. Next, do not pay anyone for a darshan that is free. Do not come at the Prakat Din without a plan, into a huge crowd. Do not miss the Anand Sagar if you have a family.
