The forests of Palapilli-Nelliampathy are home to the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary which covers around 125 sq. km. of the catchments area formed by the Peechi and Vazhani Dams. Wildlife enthusiast as well nature lovers can spend wonderful time at the sanctuary, exploring a huge variety of orchids, medicinal herbs and many species of evergreen, moist deciduous and semi-evergreen trees.

Wildlife at the sanctuary comprises of Bengal tiger, leopard, elephant, bison, spotted deer, sambar, bonnet macaque, rusty spotted cat, elk and more. In addition, many species of birds and snakes and other reptiles also find home at the sanctuary. Apart from exploring the sanctuary, you can visit other interesting attractions like Peechi Dam, Vazhani Dam and a number of temples and historical places nearby. Boating is also possible at the dam reservoirs.
Connectivites

Road: NH 47 connecting the sanctuary’s headquarters to Thrissur has rough patches at some places. State transport buses may not offer a convenient ride. Prefer to hire a car or taxi to access the sanctuary.

Railway: Thrissur Railway Station is about 40 km. from the sanctuary. It is possible to hire taxis, cabs and auto-rickshaws from the station to the sanctuary.

Airway: The international airport at Kochi (Cochin) is about 84 km. from the sanctuary. Hiring taxis from the airport is extremely easy to reach the sanctuary’s main entrance.
