Tezu

Tezu, a town located in Arunachal Pradesh, is one of the most stunning yet small tourist places which has gained fame as a major tourist destination and is well-known for its contribution to religion. The valleys and rivers present in the region make the entire region bask in the glory of nature. Tezu is one of the best cosmopolitan towns in the region and consists of a Masjid, temple, monastery and church. This beautiful hill town is lies among the Mishmi Hills of the region and is mainly inhabited by Mishmi tribe. Other inhabitants of the region include the Khamti, Miju and Digaru tribes. The place is reputed as a Hindu pilgrimage spot. Several visitors flock to the region every year to take a dip in the sacred Parashuram Kund, located nearby (about 44 km. away), in order to absolve their sins and purify the soul. The annual fair is hosted in the region during the month of January. The town is famous for its agricultural production which includes ginger, mustard and oranges. The town of Tezu is situated in the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh state in East India. The region experiences moderate humid climate for some parts of the year. The tribes here are very traditional and stick to age old customs and traditions. The main occupations of the tribes include animal husbandry, fishing, hunting and agriculture. Tezu is famous for Indira Gandhi Government College, the largest college of Arunachal Pradesh.

The food of the town of Tezu comprises of various types of cuisine such as Chinese, Indian and Tibetan in order to cater to different cultures and religions. Though there are not many restaurants here, hotels serve different varieties of continental and Chinese food.

There is no shopping mall present in the town so shopping options are limited. The local Tezu Bazaar is a small scale regional market where tourists can buy variety of cane and bamboo handicraft products and essential items. Small shops are set up each year during the annual fair, selling ethnic garments, crafts and food products. You can shop at the Tibetan camp as well.

Tezu town is easily reachable from places such as Tinsukia and Monabari. Buses and taxis form the major modes of transport to the region. Direct buses are available from Guwahati, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. The nearest railway station is present at the town of Tinsukia at a distance of about 120 km. from Tezu. Train is the most comfortable mode of transport. A small airport is present in the town of Tezu but has limited services. The major commercial airport near Tezu is situated at Mohabari in Dibrugarh located about 160 km. from Tezu. It offers regular flight services to important cities including Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and Itanagar. Gypsies and jeeps are the most common modes of transport to move about in the town.

There are a few other important attractions at Tezu including local Shiva temple, the Tezu Jama Masjid and Tezu botanical garden. The famous Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a short distance from Tezu in Lohit district.

Tinsukia: Located in Assam, at a distance of about 120 km. from Tezu, Tinsukia is Marut Nandan Kanan Park and Shiv Dham. The Dibru Saikhowa National Park hosting a biodiversity of plants and animals is yet another attraction here. Tinsukia serves at the central location for major tourist places in eastern part of India. Hawa Camp: Located about 33 km. from Tezu, Hawa Camp offers bird’s eye view of entire Lohit District. Famous as a picnic spot, it offers panoramic scenery of sunset and sunrise.
