Gokarna is well connected by rail and the Konkan railway passes through Gokarna. Apart from Gokarna Road railway station (about 9 km. away), Ankola railhead (21 km.) and Kumta railhead (32 km.) offer good connectivity. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation operates regular bus services from all parts of the state to Gokarna. The nearest airport is in Goa at Dabolim (154 km.). Rickshaws and taxis are a convenient option to travel around the city. However, the drivers often ask for a higher fare, so make sure to haggle a bit. The town is compact and easily accessible on foot.

Kumta : A sea coast town near Gokarna, Kumta was an erstwhile commercial trade post during the British. It has many beaches, forts and temples. Kumta is one of the best spots to watch massive flocks of seabirds.
