Auli

Auli, with its virgin beauty and unspoiled atmosphere, has lately started attracting tourists, especially the skiing enthusiasts. Emerging as an important adventure destination, Auli is an enchanting hill station located in Uttarakhand’s mesmerizing Himalayan ranges. Apart from adventure tourists, family holidaymakers and pilgrims visiting the nearby religious places also stop here to relish the spellbinding charm of the mountain peaks covered with oak and coniferous forests. With skiing training courses organized by the regional authorities, Auli is gaining a distinct image of being among the world’s best skiing resorts.

Auli is a world-famous bugyal (meadow covered with alpine grassland) and is deservingly called the nature’s own garden. A number of skiing slopes attract professional as well as inexperienced skiing enthusiasts during snowfall season. A 4 km. cable car called Gondola connects Auli to Joshimath, a religious destination. The ski resort also has chair lift and ski lift facilities for the adventurers. Weather in exceptionally enjoyable for sightseeing in Auli during summer months and winters are extremely cold.

Hariyali Restaurant located on the road towards Joshimath offers a variety of cuisines, including authentic Himachali cuisines. Many other dhabas on the road (especially near Joshimath) offer Indian, continental and Chinese dishes. Government run cafes in Auli are a good option to have snacks and beverages. In-house restaurants at various hotels and resorts can also be explored.

Auli is not at all a shopping paradise as it lacks marketplaces and bazaars. Tourists planning to visit Joshimath can find shops selling woolens, caps, blankets and interesting souvenirs.

Auli has no nearby airport or railhead. Tourists either have to land at Dehradun Airport (280 km. approximately) or reach Haridwar railhead (287 km. approximately) to continue the journey further by road. The hill station is connected by road to Haridwar, Delhi and other cities. Shared jeeps from Joshimath can also be used to reach the town. An interesting way to access the place is via cable car ropeway from Joshimath. The ride provides an unforgettable experience of breathtaking views of supercilious mountain peaks covered with snow. Auli is best explored on foot and in the company of a tourist guide.

Joshimath : The sacred town is highly respected for housing Jyotir Math Monastery (one of the four of its kind) and Narasimha Temple. Badrinath: Located on the bank of River Alaknanda, it is one of the four prestigious destinations of Char Dham pilgrimages. Badrinath Temple is famous for its idol made of saligram stone. Valley of Flowers (28 km.): The glorious splendor of Mother Nature blesses the Valley of Flower National Park with boundless floral beauty. The park is also the home to endangered fauna like snow leopard and blue sheep. Govindghat (35 km.): A popular destination for Sikh pilgrimage, the town has a well-known Gurudwara and acts as the starting point of Hemkund Sahib Trek. Many other religiously significant tourist places near Auli include Gopeshwar, Hemkund Sahib, Bhavishya Badri Nandaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Narsingh Temple.
