All sorts of tourists visiting the spectacular hill station of Dharamsala make a visit to this beautiful monastery visible from a distance because of its golden roof. Surrounded by tall pines and promising breathtaking views of snow-topped mountains, the monastery is worth spending hours at.

Apart from the usual aspects of a Buddhist monastery, like prayer wheels, colourful flags and serene environment, the place is well-known for its museum housing Buddhist artefacts. Bronze statues, Buddhist images, prayer scrolls and ancient manuscripts on display are worth exploring. Another attraction of the complex is the library offering huge collections of books and photographs, intended to educate people about the religion.

The best time to visit the monastery is when His Holiness is present there. You can get the information about the same from the internet or from local tour operators.
