One of the crowning glories of Udaipur is Fateh Sagar Lake, an artificial lake originally constructed in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh and refurbished by Maharana Fatah Singh some 200 years later. Known for its serene atmosphere and picturesque beauty, the lake is bounded on three sides by the rugged Aravalli Hills. The contrast of blue water with greenery is extremely eye-pleasing.

Fatah Sagar Lake has three islands, the most popular being the Nehru Park. Accessible by an exhilarating ride in speed motor boat, the park has a zoo and a restaurant. The second island is popular for its get fountains, while Udaipur Solar Observatory finds home at the third island.

The most spectacular view of the lake and its surroundings comes alive at evening when gleaming lights add fascinating visual effects to the whole sight. Be sure to not miss the sunset view as it will keep you amused for long time. Hariyali Amavasya Mela is the annual festival organized near the lake in the months of August-September.

Road: Udaipur boasts of well-maintained roads. It is possible to cover the full periphery of the lake on Fatah Sagar Drive, Moti Magri Road and Rani Road. The eastern side road of the lake promises breathtaking sightseeing of the lake and Aravalli Hills.

Railway: Udaipur has its railway station located about 6 km. from the lake. One can enjoy convenient access of the lake from the station in local buses, auto-rickshaws, tongas (horse-carts) and taxis.

Airway: The domestic airport of Udaipur is about 25 km. from Fateh Sagar Lake. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are the most convenient modes to reach the destination from here.
