Located in proximity to the Cellular Jail and Aberdeen Bazaar in the north-west part of Port Blair, the Andaman Water Sports Complex is one of the renowned and unique sports complexes in India that provides many thrilling water-based activities. Also known as Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, water-sport enthusiasts can boat up to Ross Island for an interesting and fun-filled experience. The complex also has a glorious monument/memorial that stand as a memory of the historical battle of Aberdeen, fought between Andamanese and Britishers. Enhancing the beautyof the place are the children park and Marina Park,stationedadjacent to this spot. Visitors can plan an excursion to the nearby attractions like Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Mount Harriet, ChidiyaTapu, Sippighat Farm, and Corbyn’s Cove Beach.
A colonial prison, also referred to as Kala Paani, Cellular Jail is undoubtedly among the top attractions of Port Blair. Constructed by the British between 1896 and 1906, it was meant for one among the most notorious punishments given to the revolutionaries of Indian Freedom Struggle and other political prisoners. Solitary confinement and physical and mental tortures were meted out to the convicts at the jail. After India became free, the jail earned the designation of a National Memorial. Today, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors who pay homage to the brave heroes like Batukeshwar Dutt, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Barinder Kumar Ghose and many others. The Light & Sound Show honouring the sacrifice of the freedom fighters is held every evening from 06:00 p.m. (both in Hindi and English) and is worth attending.
Dubbed as ‘Sunset Point’ and ‘Bird Island,’ Chidiya Tapu is a tiny village located in Port Blair, Andaman Island. The tiny yet impressive fishing village is one of the most serene and gorgeous places in Andaman. Loaded with lush green mangroves, placid islands and vast stretched forests comprising of numerous tweedling birds, Chidiya Tapu aptly paints the picture of a perfect picnic spot. Other than offering flawless environment, the tapu also sells lovely shell products like table lamps, show pieces, decorative boxes, and bangles. BY SEA: Regular ship services are available from Kolkata, Vishakhapatnam, and Chennai ports to Chidiya Tapu. The cruise takes about 50-60 hours to reach the destination.

The exoticness of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is well-preserved at Sippighat Farm, an 80 acre area dedicated to the cultivation of spices and nuts. Located about 15 km. from the capital city of Port Blair, the farm belongs to the Central Agricultural Research Institute which was established with an aim to study the methods for improving spice cultivation in the region. The charm of the place lies in the greenery conferred by the plantations of coconut, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and peppers. In addition, one can enjoy the company of exotic birds like Pacific Golden Plover, Mongolian Plover and Eurasian Curlew among others. Close to the farm is yet another popular attraction called Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Kayaking, snorkelling and motor boat riding are the popular activities worth enjoying at the inviting waters of the Bay of Bengal.
