- The Kedarkantha Trek is easily one of the most underrated and beautiful treks in the Himalayas. Situated on the Western borders of the Garhwal Himalayas, the Kedarkantha Trek will transport you into the midst of a snowy wonderland. The snow in this region starts from December and continues till mid-April. It is truly one of the few places in the Garhwali Himalayas where it is an absolute delight to go trekking in the winter.
- The journey from Dehradun to Sankri is long but is easily one of the most picturesque drives in the subcontinent. You will experience rolling alpine fields, forests of oak and pine, and the majestic snowy peaks of the Garhwali
- First-time trekkers are urged to carry a trekking pole and buy hardy trekking shoes to protect your feet from the rugged terrain of the Kedarkantha Trek and snakebites. Also, try to exercise regularly so that you are accustomed to the continuous walking and climbing that you have to do on this trek. The Kedarkantha Trek is deceptively tough in some places too. At night, the temperature can fall to -3° Therefore, make sure you carry adequate clothing.
- Carry energy bars with you as a snack if you get hungry on the Kedarkantha Trek, as there very few shops where you can buy something to eat. Other rudimentary supplies you can procure from Dehradun at the beginning of your trek.
- The base camp of Kedarkantha Peak on the Kedarkantha Trek is one of the most beautiful base camps in the entire world. You will be in the shadow of the magnificent Kedarkantha Peak, in the midst of glorious forests of pine and rhododendron, amidst rolling valleys teeming with sheep. Make sure to take some truly wonderful pictures at this place.
- Always keep extra photocopies of your identification documents like Aadhaar Card/Driver’s License, etc on hand. These areas have constant military patrolling and you may be asked to produce proof of identity.
- Drink only boiled water. Carry a well-equipped first-aid kit with you at all times.
