Bandipur National Park was established in 1931 by the erstwhile Mysore ruler as a personal hunting ground. In the year 1973, it was designated as a tiger reserve. Today, it is one of the topmost wildlife venues in the country. Located in the mesmerizing Nilgiri hills and bordered by numerous rivers, the park boasts of rich biodiversity in the form of tigers, leopards, elephants, four-horned antelope, gaur, sloth bear, panther, crocodiles, python and diverse bird species.

One can enjoy the spellbinding views of Gopalswamy Betta, the highest peak in the park. Dry deciduous forests, moist mixed deciduous forests, shrublands and many other types of biomes constitute the forest area. Dominating trees found here include teak, sandalwood and bamboo.

Jungle safaris in jeeps, min bus and on elephant are extremely enjoyable. One can also visit the adjoining wildlife reserves called Nagarhole National Park, Wayanad Sanctuary and Mudumalai National Park.
