Birth place of Basavna or Basaveshvara, Basavana Bagevadi is a popular pilgrimage town for those who follow Veerashiva Lingayat religion. Located close to the historic city of Bijapur, the town is dotted with some beautiful temples. Basaveshwar Temple is the most popular one and is well-known for its exquisite carvings and mesmerizing architecture.

Sangameshvara Temple is another famous holy site located at the confluence of Rivers Krishna and Malaprabha. There are idols of Basaveshvara and his consort Neelamma. One can also find a stone Shiva Lingam built in the midst of the river close to the temple. The town is also blessed with unique scenic beauty. Almatti Dam located close to the town is a good picnic spot.

Connectivites

Road: The historic town is located along National Highway 13 which connects Bijapur with Bangalore. Only about 43 km. away from Bijapur, the town can be accessed using state operated buses and in taxis and private vehicles. The town is also conveniently accessible from popular tourist destinations like Aihole, Pattadakal and Badami.

Railway: Almatti Railway Station which is about 37 km. away offers rail connectivity to the destinations like Bangalore, Hubli, Bagalkot and Solapur. Another railhead is at Bijapur, about 44 km. away. Trains are available to and from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad.

Airway: Belgaum Airport is the nearest aerodrome about 187 km. away. Flights are available to and from Bangalore. Taxis can be hired to travel the road journey to Basavana Bagevadi.

Thanks to Waytoindia for 10 day in Rajasthan- Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Mount Abu and Ahmedabad. Everything from pickup from Jaipur airport to drop at Ahmedabad airport was very smooth. The hotels booked in Jaipur and Udaipur were amazing. In Jaisalmer the camel ride and Jeep safari though a bit expensive was a good experience. The car and the driver for the entire 10 days was very good. Thanks to the driver Mahesh, who drove the 2 ladies for the entire 10 days safely and dropped us in time for the return flight to Bangalore.
