One of the finest textile museums in the world, Calico Museum of Textiles exhibit what is considered as India’s national heritage. Founded way back in 1949, the museum promises some great opportunities to explore the centuries old textile arts, embroideries and printing techniques.

Apart from the specimen of Indian textiles influenced by the Mughals and other dynasties, there are collections displaying India’s textile trade with many other countries. Techniques like tie-dye, wooden block printing and weaving and amazing embroidery designs from the regions like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Sindh, Odisha, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kathiawad and Kutch are among the highlights of morning tours. Sacred bronzes, manuscripts, sculptures, woodworks and other collections are displayed in the afternoon tours.

Guided tours in the morning and afternoon allow up to 20 and 10 visitors respectively. Handbags, mobile phones and cameras are not allowed. The museum is restricted for children below 10 years.

Road: Located by the Balwantrai Mehta Road, the museum is easy to access by a well-maintained road using private cars, public transport as well as private transport.

Railway: Ahmedabad Railway Station is about 4 km. from the museum. One can take auto rickshaw or taxi from the station to reach the museum conveniently. BRTS and AMTS buses can also be boarded.

Airway: Ahmedabad International Airport is about 6 km. from the museum. Apart from the buses run by AMTS and BRTS, there are taxi and auto-rickshaw services that connect the airport with various attractions including this museum.
