Western Himalayas near the beautiful city of Srinagar are home to Dachigam National Park, named after ‘ten villages’ that were relocated to establish the park area. The exotic natural settings adorned with the rows of apple, cherry, apricot, oak, mulberry and pear trees and a varied terrain featuring ravines, rocky outcrops, grasslands, alpine pastures and meadows make it the nature’s very special canvas.

Dachigam is home to Kashmir Stag, better known as Hangul, very rare and near-to-extinction specie that can be easily spotted here. Many other animals like musk deer, Himalayan serow, Himalayan black bear, leopard, Himalayan weasel, long-tailed marmot, jackal and otter can also be explored in the park. Avifauna at the park includes Himalayan monal, golden oriole, orange bullfinch, babbler, Himalayan rubythroat, Himalayan griffon vulture and many more.

Dagwan River flowing through the park is rich in trout. One may also come across scenic waterfalls and other natural vistas. Permission is required to enter, camp or photo-shoot inside the park. Treks leading to the upper reaches of Dichigam are quite strenuous.

Connectivites

Road: A metallic road in very good condition connects the lower part of Dachigam National park with the city of Srinagar (about 22 km. away). Jeeps are allowed up to few km. in the park. The upper part of the park can be accessed on foot.

Railway: Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the closest railhead; though it is located far at the distance of about 310 km. Taxis are the most preferred mode to cover the long distance.

Airway: Srinagar International Airport is about 36 km. from the park. You can rely on efficient taxi services available at the airport to enjoy a scenic road trip towards the park.
