Dwarka’s first lord Sri Krishna is known by the name Dwarkadhish (or Dwarkadheesh). Krishna’s grandson got the original Dwarkadhish Temple constructed thousands of years ago which was replaced by the present day temple in the 16th century. Dwarka is one among the four destinations of Char Dham (the holiest pilgrimage circuit for Hindus) and the temple is definitely the most divine spot for the pilgrims.

Dedicated to Lord Krishna and built in Chalukyan Architecture, it is majestically located on the confluence of River Gomti and Arabian Sea. Boasting of richly carved pillars, sky-reaching spires (sikharas) and the sacred sanctum (called Jagat Mandir) housing the eye-pleasing idol of the lord (with four arms representing the Chaturbhuj form of Lord Vishnu), the temple is of great reverence in Hinduism. Moksha Dwar and Swarg Dwar are the two entrance gates of the temple which also accommodates shrines of various Hindu deities.

Sacred Gomti ghats (banks) can be accessed by descending more than 50 steps from the temple. Pilgrims consider it auspicious to bath at the river bank. The temple is stunningly decorated during various festivals like Krishna Janamashthmi.
