Popularly known as Bor Talav and Bhavnagar Lake, Gaurishankar Lake is undoubtedly a must-visit tourist attraction near the city of Bhavnagar. Dug out to meet the requirement of drinking water in 1872 under the supervision of the royal minister Gaurishankar Ozha, the lake has deservingly attained the status of a popular picnic spot. Spread over an area of around 380 hectare, the lake allows superlative rendezvous with nature and serenity.
 
Surrounded by hills, the lake is a bird-watching destination as it attracts cranes, pelicans, waders, geese and a variety of other feathered creatures during different months. The lake is also known as an assemblage of majestic tourist attractions occupying its periphery. A planetarium and a royal palace called Bhav Vilas Palace are the top-notch attractions.
 
The place also boasts of Pil Garden and Bal Vatika with numerous musical fountains as added highlights for the visitors. The mini Victoria Forest nearby is home to hundreds of thousands of plants and trees and rich fauna. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is also worth visiting. The lake serves as the venue for many fairs and events during different parts of the year.

Road: About 8 km. from the city centre, the lake is accessible by well-maintained roads like State Highway 6, Bhavnagar-Rajkot Road and Bhavnagar-Sidsar Road. Transport modes like taxis and auto-rickshaws are preferred for these road trips.

Railway: The railway station of Bhavnagar is just about 8 km. from the lake and is well-connected to many popular destinations via rail routes. Hire an auto-rickshaw from here to reach the lake.

Airway: Connected to the Mumbai Airport via daily flight, Bhavnagar Airport is about 12 km. from the lake. Hiring a taxi can save your time and offer a comfortable trip to reach the lake.
