Mentioned adequately in the Hindu mythology and historical records as Siddhapuri, Jajmau is a suburb of Kanpur City and is well-known for its leather industry. The place attracts flocks of tourists to its archaeological sites from where artefacts dating back to 600 BC have been discovered. Located on the bank of River Ganga, Jajmau mound is believed to be the capital of powerful King Yayati who ruled the place thousands of years ago.
 
During excavations at various sites in Jajmau, artefacts belonging to Painted Grey Ware Culture and pre-Northern Black Polished Ware were discovered that can be explored at a museum in Kanpur. Mud bricks, burnt bricks, red ware pottery, ivory and terracotta seals, vases and coins are some of these excavated items. Visiting these sites is a thrilling experience.
 
Jajmau is also an important pilgrimage place for Hindus and Muslims. Temples of Siddhnath and Siddha Devi, sacred shrine (mausoleum) of Sufi Saint Makhdoom Shah Ala-ul-Haq and Kulich Khan Mosque are among the holy places visited by ardent devotees round the year.

Road: This suburb of Kanpur has National Highway 2 and 25 passing through it, making it conveniently accessible by road. Many popular bus routes within Kanpur connect the area with other important destinations. Local transportation options include auto-rickshaws, tempos and cycle-rickshaws.

Railway: Jajmau enjoys excellent rail connectivity via Chakeri Railway Station (about 7 km. away) and Kanpur Central Railway Station (about 11 km. away). Hire an auto-rickshaw from any of these stations for local sightseeing.

Airway: The domestic airport of Kanpur is located at Chakeri at the distance of about 2.5 km. from the suburb. Flights are available to and from Delhi, Allahabad and Kolkata. Auto-rickshaws can be hires easily from the airport to reach the destination.
