Lady Hydari Park is one of the must see spots in Shillong. This spectacular garden is landscaped in Japanese style and has a well manicured lawn and flower beds with different plants including native plants and orchids. It is best known for its rich collection of rose plants. Widely popular among locals and tourists alike, this park is indeed a visual delight and a place to relax in the lap of Mother Nature.

Named after the first lady of the province and the wife of the Governor of Assam, Lady Hydari, this park has about 73 species of birds, 140 species of reptiles and other mammals.  Managed by the state forest department, this park has also a mini-zoo, the first of its kind in Shillong. It houses many animals and birds and also has a butterfly museum. There is a spacious and well kept children’s park nearby with swings, slips and other rides for children.

Lady Hydari Park spreads over half a kilometre and is close to various other tourist attractions like the fabled Crinoline Falls. You can also enjoy a refreshing dip in the city’s only pool, Crinoline pool, which is also nearby.

Road: Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Meghalaya Road Transport or Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) also runs regular bus services to Lady Hydari Park.

Railway: The nearest rail head to Lady Hydari Park is Guwahati Railway Station and there are daily train services to most of the Indian cities like Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi
