Osian Temples near Jodhpur (about 67 km. away) are no less than masterstrokes on the desert canvas of Rajasthan. Built with such artistic fervour amidst the golden sand dunes, these temples are dedicated to different deities of Jainism and Hinduism. Built between the 8th and the 11th centuries, the temples flaunt superlative architecture with intricate carvings and are also the important pilgrimage sites for the followers from both the religions.

Temple of Lord Mahavira exemplifies the Jain architectural excellence and is definitely the most alluring structure. In addition, there are more than a dozen Jain Temples, each boasting of exquisite charm and glory. Among the Hindu temples at Osian, the Sachiya Mata Temple has some eye-pleasing sculptures to its credit. Another popular attraction is the group of three Harihara Temples dedicated to the combined form of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

Surya Temple dedicated to Sun God houses a grand idol of the god. Pippala Devi Temple, Vishnu Temple and Shiva Temple are also worth visiting. Many of these temples exhibit erotic sculptures and are thus termed as the ‘Khajuraho or Rajasthan’.
