Gwalior Fort
Gwalior Fort

Led by Raja Suraj Sen some 1,000 years ago, the fort is located on the hilltop. The fort was the residence of Scindia – the royal Maratha family, who was ruling the city at that time. It was believed that Raja Suraj Sen was cured of leprosy here. Some claims that the Gwalior Fort is one of the largest of its kind in the world. 


Memorial of Tansen
Memorial of Tansen

Dedicated to Tansen – the Classical Music Maestro, the memorial is located next to the tomb of Ghaus. It is also known as the ‘Tomb of Tansen.’ The tomb is constructed in typical Mughal architectural style, surrounded by gardens. 


Saas-Bahu Temple
Saas-Bahu Temple

Also known as Saas-Bahu ka Mandir in Hindi is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is an extraordinary illustration of 11th century architecture. The name Saas-Bhau is the short form of Shashtra Bahu, which is another name of Lord Vishnu.

 

Jai Vilas Palace

It was a European style palace, which was later converted into a museum (Scindia Museum). The palace presents a unique fusion of Italian, Corinthian and Tuscan style architecture. The palace was constructed by the Maharaj Jiyaji Rao Scindia. The palace is decorated with Italian style furniture. It is one of the must visit places in Gwalior. 

Teli-Ka-Mandir
Teli-Ka-Mandir

Built in the 9th century, the temple presents a typical North Indian style of architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, with a garuda installed on the top of the doorway.

Padavali and Bateshwar
Padavali and Bateshwar

Padavali is famous for its temple constructed on the fort of Padavali, which showcases the classic architecture of that time. Bateshwar is popular for its numerous temples and statues, which is believed to be created by Mother Nature. 


Sightseeing in Gwalior has many facets – temples, gardens, monuments etc. Some of the other attractions of the city are Suraj Kund, Man Mandir Palace, Surya Mandir, Kala Vithika and Gujari Mahal.
