Places to See

Consisting of red brick structures spread over and area of 14 hectares, the university ruins has old world charm and an extremely captivating environment. Temples, monasteries, viharas and stupas adorn the site and one can also explore structures that once served as classrooms, lecture halls, dormitories and stairways for the students and the teachers.

Among the must visit places at Nalanda is its archaeological museum with exhibits ranging from manuscripts to statues and sculptures. Nalanda Multimedia Museum (India’s first of its kind) is worth visiting for an engaging 3D animation show about the place’s history. 

Located few miles from Nalanda is this temple dedicated to Sun God. The temple also houses idols and statues of other Hindu deities and is a popular venue for the Chhath Puja festival. 

A modern learning centre, it focuses on the study and research of Buddhism and the ancient Pali language and literature

Built in a pyramidal shape, the stupa has an interesting layered construction and is dedicated to Sariputra, the well-known disciple of Buddha.
