Day 2: Madurai – Rameshwaram (about 169 km.)

Have breakfast and begin the main leg of Rameswaram travels by joining us on road trip to Pamban Island which accommodates the holy town of Rameshwaram. Enjoy the splendid ride on the 6 km. Long Pamban Sea Rameshwaram Bridge which connects the island with mainland India. You would be excited to see Pamban Rail Bridge running parallel to the sea bridge and offering excellent Rameshwaram to Madurai train service.

On arrival, check in at the booked hotel and take some rest. For the remaining day, you are free to discover the holy place at your own. You may visit beaches, temples and markets bustling with items made of seashells and religious souvenirs.

Day 3: Rameshwaram Sightseeing

Start the day at the earliest to visit the main temple of Ramanathaswamy. According to the legend, Lord Rama, while returning from Lanka after killing demon king Ravana and freeing his consort Sita, decided to worship Lord Shiva to get rid of the sin of Brahmin Hatya (Ravana actually being a Brahmin by birth). He commanded Hanuman to bring a Shiva Lingam from Kashi (the modern day Varanasi). As Hanuman failed to fulfil the command on time, Sita made a Lingam using beach sand. When Hanuman brought Lingam from kashi, he was disappointed and felt guilty of being late. Rama worshipped both the Lingams and requested Shiva to stay at the place forever. Shiva complied and established himself as a Jyotirlinga at Rameshwaram. The Lingam made by Sita is worshipped as the Jyotirlinga inside the main temple.

Day 4: Rameshwaram – Madurai

After breakfast, start the road trip from Rameshwaram to Madurai. On arrival, we help you transfer to the airport or railway station from where you begin the journey back to home as Rameshwaram tour package ends.

I planned a South India tour from Chennai to Kochi. I asked from many different travel companies but I got the best and cheapest offer by 'Way to India'. That was two weeks travel plan. We visited so many wonderful places and we got enough time for some individual program too. In the first week we visited the historical places like temples, museums and some beaches. In the second week we visited amazing natural attraction. All happened at exactly fixed itinerary. We traveled with a comfortable panoramic mini bus and the bus driver (Mr. Ram) was very kind and talented who could manage a good restaurant for dinner and lunch every day. The recommended hotels were correct and better than the chosen category. The connecting with 'Way to India' was a great experience for us and Mr Mohit was very pleasant and flexible for our request. All in all believe that this was the best choice for traveling. I'm sure we'll go back in India again because we found many kind friends at there and we would like to organize travel again by 'way to India'. thanks for all you have done for us thank you so much

I am so delighted and grateful that I found Way to India. I was nervous about doing a trip by myself, as a young woman, in the Himalayas and it was important for me to find a trusted company to arrange my trip. I searched long and hard but once I spoke with Mohit at Way to India, I knew I found the perfect company. Every question I had or issue I needed help with was handled immediately, proficiently, with excellent service that really went above and beyond. All of the people connected with the company that I met or spoke with are extremely helpful, friendly and an absolute pleasure to deal with. The itinerary created was just perfectly tailored for what I wanted and was done with a lot of thought and care. They stayed connected with me through the entire trip to make sure everything was going well. Really, I did not have to worry or think about anything. I will use them every time I come back to India! I highly recommend to all my friends and family and to anyone who wants a memorable visit to India.   Aditi Banerjee

Thanks to Waytoindia for 10 day in Rajasthan- Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Mount Abu and Ahmedabad. Everything from pickup from Jaipur airport to drop at Ahmedabad airport was very smooth. The hotels booked in Jaipur and Udaipur were amazing. In Jaisalmer the camel ride and Jeep safari though a bit expensive was a good experience. The car and the driver for the entire 10 days was very good. Thanks to the driver Mahesh, who drove the 2 ladies for the entire 10 days safely and dropped us in time for the return flight to Bangalore.

Travel Tips For Rameshwaram Tour Package

Important Tips for Pilgrims Visiting Rameshwaram

To make the best out of the second and the third day of Rameshwaram tour package, you must go through and follow the useful tips and suggestions discussed below:

    • There are two Shiva Lingams in Rameshwaram, one brought by Hanuman from Kashi (called Vishwanatha or Vishwalinga) and the second made by Rama’s consort Sita using sand (called Ramanathaswamy Lingam). According to the belief, Vishwalinga is worshipped prior to Ramanathaswamy Lingam).
    • A popular ritual on Rameshwaram tours is to carry holy sand from the coastal town to Kashi (Varanasi), considered as the holiest Shiva city. For this, you would need to hire a priest to perform the required procedure which includes pooja at the beach, 36 holy dips in sea, holy bath in 23 teerthams (sacred water bodies) and the final ritual in which the priest hands over the sand. The whole procedure may start from INR 136 (including INR 111 for priest and INR 25 for teertham baths). If interested, begin this ritual at the earliest in the morning.
    • Darshan of Spatika Lingam (also called Mani), made of a special quartz stone, is another highlight of visiting Rameshwaram Temple. Please note that timings for mani darshan are limited – just one hour in the morning from 05:00-06:00 a.m. You need to pay INR 10/50 for general/special queue for darshan. Make sure that you reach the place before time.
    • It is believed that after bathing in the last teertham, called Kodi Teertham, one must leave the town the same day and not stay for night.
    • Pure vegetarian food is available at restaurants, but it’s a unique experience to be the guest to a Brahmin family (costs around INR 40). There are small messes (like one near the main temple) which offer tasty Tamil cuisines (like dosa and idli at remarkably low prices).
    • Shared autos are available for visiting the temples located few miles in all directions from Ramanathaswamy Temple.  You may also hire jeeps/4 WDs/ (cost between INR 1,000-1,300) or mini truck (costs around INR 150) to visit Dhanushkodi, the palce that submerged in water few years ago and hosts wonderful confluence of Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.
    • The popular glass boat ride at Pamban Bridge might not be available anymore. Check it in advance before devoting time towards it.
    • Beware of buying the floating stones that touts claim as part of Rama Setu (Adam’s Bridge)that was built by Rama’s monkey army to reach Lanka.
