Sun Temple
Sun Temple

Representing the Kalinga School of Temple Architecture, the temple is dedicated to Sun God. Originally built by Samba, Lord Krishna’s son, who got rid of leprosy with the blessings of Sun, the present day temple dates back to 13th century. Constructed using black granite, the temple is also called Black Pagoda and has unique art and architecture to its credit. Though the temple is in ruins, it can still spellbind one’s attention. Sun God’s idol, Sanctuary Tower (called Jaganmohan) and Nata Mandir (admirable for its erotic sculptures) are the key attractions. Konark Beach
Konark Beach

Also called Chandrabhaga Sea Beach, it is known for its golden sand and pristine beauty and attractions like an old lighthouse, a natural deer park and few temples. It also hosts the annual Chandrabhaga Mela in February when flocks of pilgrims arrive to take holy dips in the water. 

ASI Museum
ASI Museum

Run by the Archaeological Survey of India, the museum houses antiques and items obtained from the ruined parts of the Sun Temple. Explore exhibits like monuments, sculptures, figures and other items.


Other closely located must visit places at Konark include Vaishnava Temple, Bhagabati Temple, Ramchandi Temple (also called Mayadevi Temple), Buddhist site of Kuruma and Balukhand Konark Wildlife Sanctuary (known for spotted deer, blackbuck and a variety of birds, along with enchanting landscapes).
